About us

UGA en España is a study abroad program housed in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia.  From its beginnings in 2001, UGA en España has grown into an array of programs of varying lengths and characteristics.  While set mainly in Spain, the program has, with the Peru Medical Spanish program, ventured into South America, as well.  UGA en España is fortunate to have established formal relationships with various foreign universities, reinforcing the academic rigor and authenticity of its programs and curricula.  International Cooperative Agreements with the Universitat de València and the Universidad de Cádiz in Spain, and with the Universidad César Vallejo in Peru, provide contact with the campuses and student bodies of these institutions and interaction with their faculty.  In Sevilla and Madrid, we partner with long-standing private academic institutions who provide not only experienced university instructors for our courses but also rich cultural content through local excursions and guided tours.  UGA en España offers a spring semester program in Valencia, during which students study at UValència and live alongside Spanish students in one of the university's student residence halls.  In the summer, we offer three 7-week programs --Cádiz, Sevilla, and Valencia-- and two 4-week programs: the Madrid-Barcelona Maymester and Peru Medical Spanish in Trujillo, Peru.  The Madrid-Barcelona program focuses on Spanish culture and features an intensive round of activities and excursions about and around Madrid before moving on to Barcelona, where students complete the final week of the program.  The Peru Medical Spanish program focuses on those students who plan to work in the medical professions and who also want to use Spanish professionally; students shadow Peruvian medical workers and study Spanish for medical uses.  All our programs, with the exception of the Valencia spring and summer programs, feature homestays with local families, further enriching students' contact with native language and culture.  Please click on the links to individual programs for more information about locations and program features.
