Study Abroad Programs

While set mainly in Spain, the program has, with the Peru Medical Spanish program, ventured into South America, as well.  UGA en España is fortunate to have established formal relationships with various foreign universities, reinforcing the academic rigor and authenticity of its programs and curricula.  International Cooperative Agreements with the Universitat de València and the Universidad de Cádiz in Spain, and with the Universidad César Vallejo in Peru, provide contact with the campuses and student bodies of these institutions and interaction with their faculty.  In Sevilla and Madrid, we partner with long-standing private academic institutions who provide not only experienced university instructors for our courses but also rich cultural content through local excursions and guided tours.

Casco Antiquo Valencia des d Reina

The Valencia Program includes a 15-week spring semester as well as a 7-week summer option.  Students take four courses for the spring or two courses for the summer, choosing between language, culture, literature, and film courses. Courses are taught on the campus of the University of Valencia by native UV faculty, and students live at the Colegio Mayor Rector Peset, an official UV residence hall located in the heart of the city’s casco antiguo.  Native Spanish as well as international students from South America, Asia, and elsewhere in Europe provide a wealth of opportunities for new friendships.

Sevilla

The Sevilla program is a seven-week stay in Spain’s storied cultural capital and the undisputed heart of Andalucía.  This vivid and vibrant city on the Guadalquivir River has a color and a heat all its own.  Rivaling Valencia as Spain’s third largest city, Sevilla is both a pulsing urban center and a place of sprawling gardens and lazy patios, where modern streetcars glide past the gothic Cathedral and the Moorish architecture of the Giralda while green-minded sevillanos zip along the bike lanes that thread the entire city.

Peru

The Peru Medical Spanish program is an intense, one-month adventure in the big country of Peru designed for future medical professionals who intend to integrate the use of Spanish in their careers.  The program involves both coursework in medical Spanish and a strong practical component in which students shadow Peruvian doctors in their rounds and consultations in local medical facilities.  Students observe emergency room and operating room procedures as well as other fields including orthopedics and pediatrics.
