Ian Turner

I am interested in phonetics and phonology as they relate to languages in South and Central America. I would be extremely excited to apply my knowledge of Spanish to technological advancements in the field of NLP. Ultimately, I would like to better understand and support the research and services for languages like Quechua, Guaraní, and other widely spoken South American languages. By focusing on South and Central American linguistic communities, my goal is to learn the fundamentals of and build a bridge between computational linguistics and language families with less robust transcription and translational services, ensuring that technology is used as a tool to enrich and not erase linguistic diversity.
