The Department offers the Master's degree in Romance Languages with a major in French, Italian*, Portuguese, or Spanish. For the thesis option, a minimum of 9 graduate seminars, a minimum of 3 hours of ROML 7300, preliminary written examinations, a Master's thesis, and an oral thesis defense are required. For the non-thesis option, a minimum of 11 graduate seminars and comprehensive written and oral examinations are required.
Students who wish to combine the study of two languages will take a minimum of 6 courses in the major language and a minimum of 3 courses in the minor language. See the Graduate Handbook for additional information on this program.
*Most Italian M.A. Students will need to minor in a second language.
