GSO of the Department of Romance Languages

The UGA Romance Languages Graduate Student Organization is a group devoted to serve the needs of the graduate student body in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia

 

The purpose of this organization is to:

  1. Organize social and academic events to benefit the graduate students of the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia.
  2. Create a space for graduate students to exchange scholarly and creative work among themselves as well as with professors from the Department of Romance Languages and other departments.
  3. Create a network of communication and representation between graduate students and faculty within the Romance Languages Department.
  4. Provide information about conferences and scholarly opportunities as well as useful information about local resources for incoming and current graduate students.
  5. Create a network with graduate students from other departments at UGA as well as neighboring universities.

Officers

The President will:

  1. Conduct general and board meetings.
  2. Delegate tasks to officers or committees.
  3. Create or dissolve committees from the membership as necessary.
  4. Make executive decisions when needed.

     

The Vice-president will:

  1. Have similar responsibilities to the President in terms of guiding meetings and making executive decisions when needed.
  2. Conduct the duties of the President in the President’s absence.
  3. Coordinate committees regarding the business of the organization, such as fundraising events and social activities.
  4. Maintain the organization’s web page.

 

The Secretary will:

  1. Record and keep minutes of organization meetings.
  2. Keep the membership and the faculty representative of the organization updated on all matters, including the scheduling of meetings and organizational events as well as communicating minutes through the listserv.
  3. Make reservations for classrooms when needed for events.
  4. Maintain the non-financial records of the organization, including contact and activity planning information.
  5. Maintain and check the organization’s listserv and Facebook account.
  6. Aide the Vice-president with the maintenance of the organization’s website.

     

The Treasurer will:

  1. Maintain the financial records of the organization.
  2. Apply for and secure funding.

 

The Outreach Coordinator will:

  1. Work closely with members of the ROML graduate student communities in in Portuguese, French, Italian, and Linguistics to ensure that these groups are well-represented in the GSO.
  2. Work with external organizations such as Graduate Pride and LSUGA (Linguistics Society at UGA) as well as related departments such as LACSI, Comparative Literature, and Women’s Studies to coordinate events and programming.
