A Romance Languages AB allows you to achieve proficiency in two languages. Choose any pair from French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Advisor Kate Daley-Bailey will walk you through the options.

advantages of a major in TWO LANGUAGES 

You've heard of Spanglish, how about Portuñol or Frespagnol? Enter exclusive contact zones between languages and share in intercultural dialogues where English isn't spoken. 

Your ability to understand code-switching, mixed, and hybrid speech will be a credible edge, based on impressive linguistic knowledge of the real, wider world.

Esteban Lazaro, Triple Major in French, Spanish, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and minor in Latinx Studies, was offered a graduate internship for UGA's new student orientation in summer 2026. Celebrated as a Top 100 Student Employee, his next step is a Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Boston College. Read more.

Grace St. Urbain, A.B. in Romance Languages—Spanish and French, was employed as a Bilingual Victim Advocate in the Cobb County District Attorney's Office upon graduation in 2020. She went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Massachusetts School of Law. Listen to her message for students considering a Romance Languages degree.


Global internship or research capstone funding

New for 2026-2027, the Hellerstein Romance Immersive Fund, endowed by Professor Emerita Nina Hellerstein, provides global internship or research capstone funding of $2,000 per undergraduate major. 10 awards per year. Contact department head, Dr. Dana Bultman dbultman@uga.edu to apply. You must be a major in Romance Languages, French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish to be eligible.
