The article entitled "A parte dos Críticos de 2666, de Roberto Bolaño, como análise da globalização" [The Part About the Critics, in Roberto Bolaño's 2666, as an analysis of Globalization], authored by Portuguese PhD student, Fábio Mariano, appeared in the most recent volume of the journal Revista da Associação Brasileira de Hispanistas (abehache). Congratulations to Fábio Mariano! 
The article entitled "El foco, la estructura informativa y el ser focalizador en el español cibaeño" [Focus, information structure, and focalizing ser in Cibaeño Spanish], authored by Dr. Timothy Gupton, appeared in the most recent volume of the journal Revista International de Lingüística Iberoamericana (RILI). Congratulations to Dr. Gupton! 
The Research Note entitled, "Processing polarity sensitivity in L2 Spanish" recently appeared in the Online First section of the leading academic journal Second Language Research. Its authors are Drs. Colton Seaman, Leticia Rincón Herce, and Aaron Yamada, all of whom are researchers affiliated with Creighton University. Leticia is an alumna of UGA Romance Languages (PhD, 2020). Congratulations to Leticia and her colleagues! 
The article "La lingüística y sus beneficios para la enseñanza del español" (Linguistics and its benefits for the teaching of Spanish) appeared in the academic journal Hispanic Studies Review on July 7, 2023. Dr. Gupton collaborated on this project with colleagues Dr. Laurel Hodges (University of Southern Mississippi) and Dr. Stephanie Knouse (Furman University).  Congratulations to Dr. Gupton and his co-authors!
The article "Why we need a gradient approach to word order" recently appeared (ahead of print) in the journal Linguistics. An Interdisciplinary Journal of the Language Sciences. This project was led by Dr. Natalia Levishna (Max Planck Institute) and Dr. Savithry Namboodiripad (University of Michigan), and was co-authored by a team of international researchers including Dr. Timothy Gupton. ​​​​This paper started as collection of separate workshop…
¡Enhorabuena! and congratulations to Dia Sabin, Spanish major and winner of a Sigma Delta Pi National Spanish Honors Society 2023 study abroad scholarship. Dia was selected among a very competitive pool of applicants nationwide who are members of Sigma Delta Pi. Dia plans to study in Spain with UGA en España's summer Spanish language immersion program in Valencia in 2023!
The article "Focus at the syntax–discourse interface in L2 Spanish: Optionality and unaccusativity reconsidered", by Dr. Timothy Gupton (UGA, Romance Languages) and Dr. Silvia Sánchez Calderón (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Spain) recently appeared in the journal Second Language Research. Data for this project was gathered at UGA and in Valencia, Spain with the cooperation of UGA en España. Congratulations to Dr. Gupton!
María González-Ferrer, Graham Johnson, and Eliot Westdorp, doctoral students in Romance Linguistics, recently published their paper "The historical evolution of the Spanish discourse marker pues from the 16th century" in the proceedings of the International Virtual Conference on Language and Literature, IVICOLL 2022.  Here is a LINK to their proceedings article. Two of our Sigma Delta Pi members, Karishma Dayani and Emily Gibson, have been awarded 2016 Sigma Delta Pi Undergraduate Study Abroad Awards of $2,500. They were selected for these awards from a very competitive pool of applicants from all over the U.S. There were only 16 awards made, and UGA was the only institution with TWO winners.
