UGA en France

The UGA en France program is happy to be returning in 2025, after a very successful summer 2024. UGA en France is a linguistic and cultural immersion program, which requires students to have completed FREN2002 or its equivalent. While there are exhanges and other study abroad programs in France through UGA, this is the only study abroad program designed just for students of French. You don't have to be a major or a minor (even if this program was designed for them), but you do need to meet the language requirement, as you will be living with a French host family and all courses will be conducted in French. For those hoping to complete a minor while in France, check in with Kate Daley-Bailey to see how you could easily change that minor into a major!!

PROGRAM DETAILS:

The summer 2025 program will last approximately 6 weeks (about a week longer than in 2024) and will be largely based in Montpellier, the sixth largest city in France, located about 7-10km from the Mediterranean Sea. We will begin the program on or around 21 June and will spend approximately 6 days in the Loire Valley, where all students will take a course on the history of the region, its famous "children," and its castles. Our visit there will take you to some of the area's most famous monuments, as well as to some that are historically important but perhaps a little less well known to Americans. Imagine walking in the same place as Eleanor of Aquitaine, Joan of Arc, François Ier, or Leonardo da Vinci!!

After our exciting and busy sojourn in the Loire Valley. we'll spend 2.5 days in Paris so that you can let your inner tourist emerge. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Versailles: all will be waiting for you!!

On our around the 30th of June, we will take a TGV to Montpellier, our final destination. There, your host family will greet you at the train station and take you to their home, where you'll spend the remainder of the program. Our schedule in Montpellier can get pretty hectic. In July, you'll have two classes per day, four days per week, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. On Wednesdays, we'll take excursions to sites in the region that are of cultural and historical importance, are related to the courses you're taking, and are amazing places to visit. You will have your weekends to visit other cities in France on your own or to take some optional group excursions.

The 9 credits you will earn are not transfer credits; you will enroll in UGA courses, just as you would if you were taking courses here in Athens. That's a huge benefit!! And all of your 9 credit hours count as part of the major or minor.
