Erin Bolívar is a scholar of Hispanic Studies and a second year PhD student in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia.  Her research focuses on the portrayal of the Virgen Mary in both Spanish and Italian cultures.  As a Marian scholar, she focuses on the connections between Mother Mary as both an earthly figure and an inspirational embodiment of  humanity's highest aspirations.  Her dissertation will center on Spanish and Italian poetry and painting of the Madonna from the Golden Age and Renaissance until the present.

She serves as an editorial fellow for the Bulletin of the Comediantes and a website editor for the ​Department of Romance Languages.

As an instructor, she teaches communicative based lessons with emphasis on Hispanic culture.  Her teaching philosophy centres around student learning and their individual needs to be successful in Spanish language learning.  She sees her role as very much of guidance and support in order to assist her students achieve their language goals.  

Research interests:  Spanish Golden Age poetry and painting, twenty first century Spanish and Italian religious poetry, paintings, and murals; Marian scholarship, Marian gardens, iconography, and statues; Feminist theory, sacred architecture.
