Spanish Students Publish Research in The Classic Journal

Please join us in celebrating the achievements of David Burke, Bodey Gray, and Jake Cliett whose essays in Spanish appear this December in Issue 8.1 of The Classic Journal, the Writing Intensive Program’s journal of undergraduate writing and research. 

David Burke (pictured on left), a third-year undergraduate student at UGA double majoring in Biology and Spanish, is the author of the publication: “La influencia de la pobreza multidimensional en la desnutrición y complicaciones de salud de los indígenas panameños.” Learn about how poverty affects Indigenous Panamanians and the positive impact support for food sovereignty could have in his article here.

Bodey Gray (pictured on right), graduates this spring with a major in World Language Education and TESOL and a minor in Spanish. He is the author of the publication: “¿Cuándo hablar español y cuándo hablar inglés? Preferencias lingüísticas de estudiantes hispanos bilingües en distintos contextos comunicativos.” Learn about the linguistic preferences and tendencies of bilingual Hispanic students for communicating in particular situations at school in his article here.

Jake Cliett (not pictured) is in his first year of Medical School at the Medical College of Georgia. Cliett graduated in 2022 from UGA with a Bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in Spanish. Cliett writes about the risk factors and implications of prostate cancer for the male population in Mexico in the publication: “El cáncer de próstata en México.” You can read his article here. 

The Classic Journal, edited by Dr. Lindsey Harding, Director of the Writing Intensive Program in Franklin College, is dedicated to showcasing critical writing and research composed by University of Georgia undergraduate students.
